Flood Insurance Workshop

Flood risks are changing in Louisiana. In some areas, preliminary flood maps (Flood Insurance Rate Maps, or FIRMs) have been or soon will be released. In other areas, the preliminary maps have recently become effective. And with the release of new flood maps, residents and business owners will find that their flood risk has changed. Some will find they are actually at a higher risk than they thought, and others will see that their flood risk is lower. 

To help better understand those changes, FEMA is hosting a 2-hour online workshop for insurance agents, lenders, builders, surveyors on how map changes affect building and flood insurance requirements and insurance options. During the workshop, industry professionals will: Hear about mapping projects in Louisiana and better understand where the changes are occurring on the new flood maps; Learn about the potential impacts on flood insurance and building requirements; Hear more about the National Flood Insurance Program’s available insurance rating options; Review recent related changes to the National Flood Insurance Program, including Risk Rating 2.0; and Walk away with online tools and resources to assist you. There is no charge for this workshop, and we encourage you to share this information with other insurance agents, lenders, surveyors, and builders. Space is limited for this online workshop, so it is important that you register as soon as possible. Two hours of Continuing Education Credits (CECs) are being offered for insurance agents (Provider # 10198; Course #28181) and Certified Floodplain Managers (CFMs). 

Access to the online workshop will be available ½ hour before the workshop begins to allow you to test and ensure you are able to connect.
